Amish Sweet Rolls-Cinnamon Rolls
Combine:
1 cup scalded milk
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon
1/2 cup shortening-I have started using butter-Makes moister
Add:
1 cup water
2 beaten eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
Add: & beat well:
2 tablespoons yeast with flour (approx. 5-6 cups flour)
Add: flour to knead lightly. Let rise(1-1 ½ hr). Punch down. Shape(Roll out). Brush with melted butter (I now use sour cream). Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.(I use brown sugar and cinnamon). Roll. Cut into 1 1/2” slices. Put in greased ½ pan. Let rise about 1 hour.
Bake at 425 degrees for 11-13 min.(Best if they are slightly golden brown so watch). Let cool then frost. Frosting-powdered sugar with milk beaten to make creamy white frosting. Could add some vanilla to taste.
Yield:15-16 rolls
