Description: MuleSkinner Lodge is located in the heart of NE Kansas, an area that is non-monotonous with hills, woodlands, prairies, rivers, creeks, wondrous clean air and blue skies. The rolling Cedar Hills surround the lodge and it's acreage. Glaciers moved across the area many years ago depositing quartsite stones, pink to red, to purple in color that are much harder than granite. Many species of wildlife and birds abound making living in the area very interesting and enjoyable. The trees growing here range from sycamore, ash, elm, red cedar, hickory nut, osage orange, walnut, many kinds of oak, soft maple, red bud, wahoo, box elder, basswood, paw paw and many others. Much farming is done here and the equipment used these days is interesting to be sure. The earth ranges from "thin, or not as fertile but good native grasses and pastures, on the uplands or hills to deep black fertile earth in the lowlands or "bottoms", as they are called. The good Kansas black dirt will grow anything and it is a joy to work with that kind of soil and see the wheat fields, corn, soybeans and milo growing bountifully on the land. The wonferful fields are so pleasant to see. On steamy summer evenings when the corn is tasseling, driving or walking on an old dirt road between corn fields, one can "drink in" the wonderful sweet aroma of the corn. It is those times that make it so well worthwhile living in this country. Agritourism farm tours may be arranged and one can possibly see harvesting of the fields in season. ...
